Statement
I chose to focus on the problem of pollution with my lamp, both how we normally think of it as well as light pollution. Having grown up in cities all my life, I've never really seen a sky completely full of stars and haze was a fairly frequent problem. My lamp shows the disparity between huge industrialization and the pollution it causes as well as a more natural sky full only of stars.

Samantha Spreitzer Lecture Review ART 350S Date of Lecture: February 13, 2018 Claudia O’Steen Talk             I found several parts of Claudia O’Steen’s talk about her work interesting. As I do have my own fascination with space and the universe beyond our little blue planet, the fact that she worked with NASA somewhat was fascinating to me, and it serves as a good reminder that NASA does far more for us than just study space (which is also pretty important if you ask me). I also enjoyed her project where she had her residency on a ship in the arctic circle. Shipboard life has always interested me, as ways of vacation, living, and learning. What an excellent way to travel around such an area to learn about it. O’Steen’s own fascination with the colors of the water and sky were interesting, too, and it made for a unique way to keep track of time and location. Paik and Vostell Art

Paik's Electronic Superhighway: Continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii (1995) Vo stell's  Oscillograph on Beethoven   (1959-1963) I found Paik's Electronic Superhighway piece interesting because I thought it was an interesting way to display this work. I like the neon and the brightness it gives to the piece. I also like the careful arrangement of the TVs to fit in the specific outlines of the states, even using really small ones to fit. I liked Vostell's Oscillograph mostly because of nostalgia and memories. It reminded me of the patterns I remember Windows Media Player displaying when listening to music on out old PC at home. I really enjoy that the visualization of sound has such a long history too.

Links two men with pigeon The Author The King is Dead Enduring Freedom (presentation removed as it only contained images from his new project that he asked not be shared online) Still from 'Two Men with Pigeon' Presentation Summary: Richardson went to Emily Carr University in Vancouver where he received a BFA in Film, Video, and Integrated Media. He now lives and works in Vancouver. In general, he uses different mediums for his works, depending on what he thinks would fit best, but this focuses on his work using video games. He thought of games as primarily political material and sort of ran with that, though he has said that not all of his work is political and sometimes is just experimental or narrative.
