Presentation Summary:
Victor Morales was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He earned a law degree from Universidad Catolica Andres Bello in 1990. He then went on to earn his master's degree in Technology Applied to the Arts from NYU in 1992. He was originally going for theater but switched to the more computer science focused program after he saw his first 'digital picture' in Photoshop. He spent over a decade in NYC and now lives in Berlin. He got into video games from an experience he had playing Metal Gear Solid 2 when he played for long enough that the game told his to stop (he then turned off his PlayStation and never played it again) and the idea that a game could know something about him got him interested in using them. He now uses video games in some form in his art (game engines, modding, etc.). He mostly does 'real-time' performances, where he has set up a scene and interacts with it live as a performance piece, recording it with Machinima for archival purposes. His 'Marionette' project was a projected war game that was played live in front of an audience. His Vogelstimmen project was originally performed alongside a live orchestra and followed the music. After 7 rums with cocount water’ is part of a series of short animations that he did every day, with the animations being at least thirty seconds long.
