This sculpture is meant to represent that, in a consumerist society, power and wealth are often held by very few people. Many others less fortunate strive to get a piece of it, often without real results or change. The consumerist, capitalist society we live in often feels like a great embodiment of inequality. With so much money held by so few, it seems like those with can lord it over everyone else, with no care for what that does and how everyone else lives. For a lot of people, the idea of the classic American Dream, where if you just work hard enough you can make it to the top, has become something that seems utterly unrealistic today. This doesn't stop many of the rich from dangling it still in front of them whilst simultaneously making sure things stay the same behind the scenes.
